Workshop on Research Methodology, Biostatistics and Ethics: 22nd – 26th June 2019
A Workshop on Research Methodology, Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Ethics titled - “eviDENS – 2019” was organized by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore on 22nd – 26th June, 2019. at Lecture Hall 1, MCODS Attavar Campus. A total of 50 participants participated in the program, which included post graduate students, house surgeons & faculty members from MCODS, Mangalore and neighboring institutions in Mangalore. Dr. Rajesh G, Professor and Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry, MCODS, Mangalore welcomed all the participants for the workshop. The resource persons for the program were faculty members of our own Department, Dr. Ashwini Rao, Dr. Rajesh G, Dr. Ramya Shenoy, Dr. Mithun Pai and Dr. Mranali Shetty, who discussed various aspects related to research methodology, epidemiology, and biostatistics. A demonstration session on Mendeley, the reference writing software; and protocol writing was also conducted. Dr. Prashanthi Madhyastha, Member Secretary, Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) enlightened the participants about the processes involved in obtaining ethical clearance from IEC, MCODS, Mangalore. Dr. Aditi Chopra, Assistant Professor, Department of Periodontology, MCODS, Manipal, who is an alumnus of our institution (2004 batch) was invited to deliver a talk on plagiarism. Dr. Unnikrishnan, Associate Dean, KMC, Mangalore enlightened the audience about Ethics in Research. A hands on training on protocol writing was conducted during the workshop. Participants were divided into 6 groups and were assigned various tasks related to the workshop. The activities were related to identifying study designs, working with Mendeley software, developing a protocol for a particular research topic and biostatistics. Valedictory function was held on 26th June 2019 at Lecture Hall 1, MCODS, Attavar. The chief Guest for valedictory function was Dr. Ashita Uppoor, Associate Dean, MCODS, Mangalore. Certificates of participation were handed over to the resource persons and participants. Overall, good feedback was obtained from the participants and the program was well appreciated by one and all.
