The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, MCODS Mangalore conducted a program on 13th Feb 2025. This marks the occasion of International Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons’ Day celebrated globally. The International OMFS day marks the birthday celebration of Dr Minoo Ginwalla, the first Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon in India.
The resource person Dr Aravind N, Assistant Professor, and Consultant Surgical oncologist, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore. spoke on “Early detection in oral cancer.” He highlighted the subtle signs and symptoms that are often overlooked by physicians. This guest lecture was mainly focused on educating interns and stressed the vital role of dentist in identifying the red flags of oral cancer.
The second resource person Dr. Lekha Airan, Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at various private hospital and nursing homes in New Delhi and director of smile access dental clinic and implant center New Delhi, who is MCODS, Mangalore Alumna MDS Batch 2013-2016. She conducted an interactive session with OMFS post graduate students on challenges faced by early career maxillofacial surgeons and ways to overcome the same.
The program was well received with 30 participants including interns, postgraduates and faculty. The event was well received and appreciated by all participants.
