TELL TALE TEETH 2018

Centre for Forensic Odontology, a collaborative unit of the Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore and the Department of Forensic Medicine, Kasturba Medical College Mangalore, successfully organized a full day Continuing Professional Development Program and workshop titled “Tell Tale Teeth 2018”, on 14th July, 2018 at the Lecture Hall 1, Attavar campus, MCODS, Mangalore.

The chief guest for this inaugural ceremony was Dr. Dilip Naik, Dean, MCODS, Mangalore. He emphasized the importance of the field of forensic odontology in various scenarios, be it civil, criminal or medico-legal.  Dr. Suresh Shetty, Head of the Dept. of Forensic Medicine at KMC Mangalore also addressed the gathering highlighting the need for such collaborative ventures.

Dr. Sudeendra Prabhu, Professor, Dept of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Yenepoya Dental College, Mangalore and Dr Medha Babshet, Reader, Dept of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Hasanamba Dental College, Hassan were the resource persons. Dr. Sudeendra discussed on the role of “Odontometrics” in forensic identification with emphasis on determination of gender, race and stature of a victim, hastening building up of a biological profile for identification. Dr Medha discussed the various methods of age estimation using dental radiographic methods and it was followed by a much-appreciated hands-on workshop on Kvaal’s technique and Cameriere’s Pulp tooth ratio methods.

This program was attended by about 60 participants including Faculty, Postgraduate and undergraduate from colleges in around Mangalore as well as private dental practitioners from Bangalore and Kerala.
