About the Department

The department of respiratory medicine was established in 1983, initially for as a nodal center for Tuberculosis and its management, has evolved over the time to manage wide range of respiratory diseases spanning from asthma, COPD, Pneumonias, ILDs, Pleural based diseases and sleep disorders.

The department has well trained faculty that offers the best health care outcomes with emphasis on quality patient care, efficient diagnosis and management.

Department is actively involved in clinical research activities, academics, training and education of Undergraduates and post graduates since 2011 imparting the skills and knowledge in the field of respiratory and sleep medicine.

Kasturba Medical College and Hospital has one of the most advanced state of art equipment’s in pulmonary procedures such as Ultrasound based pleural procedures, Bronchoscopy, Thoracoscopy, Allergy clinic, Spirometry & DLCO and Level 1 Sleep Lab.

1. Outpatient clinics:

Respiratory outpatient services: All working days (8:00 AM to 5 PM)

2. In-patient services:

·         50 general beds which includes

·         10 TB Isolation beds

·         10 bedded high Dependency beds

·         10 bedded Respiratory intensive care unit

·         4 bedded DR TB ward

3. Allergy unit:

·        Skin prick test

4. Pulmonary Function Lab:

·         Spirometry

·         Diffusing capacity measurements by CO diffusion

·         FeNO

4. Bronchoscopy/Thoracoscopy services:

·         Fibreoptic and video bronchoscopy with BAL, EBB, TBLB, TBNA

·         Thoracoscopy

5. Ultrasound guided Interventions:

·         Chest sonography

·         ICD/ Pig tail insertion

·         Pleural biopsy

6. Exercise testing:

·         6 min. walk test

7. Pulmonary rehabilitation:

·         Chest physiotherapy

·         Respiratory muscle training

 

8. Full Fledged Sleep lab:

·         Level 1: Polysomnography

·         Limited channel sleep study, Auto-CPAP titration

·         Manual CPAP titration

9. Smoking cessation clinic:

·         Pharmacological & Non-pharmacological approaches

10. Post Covid Clinic:

·         Assessment, management, rehabilitation and follow up of post covid patients
