iACT – 2017, short for ISAB Industrial Automation and Control Tech Event Day, was organized by the International Society of Automation (ISA), Bangalore on March 4th & 5th, 2017. It saw teams from across South India participating and witnessing several technical events.

 

The Chief Guest for the function was Mr. Venkatesh Sarvasiddi, Head of Academic Initiatives, Microsoft India, with the Guest of Honor being Mr. Rajesh Rathi, President of ISA Bangalore. The event was presided over by Dr. B.H.V. Pai, Joint Director MIT.

 

Dr. BHV Pai, in his Presidential address, encouraged the faculty and students to interact with the industry personnel and extolled the crucial role of robotics in the future. Mr. Venkatesh Sarvasiddhi, in the first keynote address, advised students to join start-ups that would align their skill set with the latest market trends.

The teams soon got to work - with paper presentations, project exhibition, and the technical quiz’s elimination round beginning simultaneously at different venues. Ten students from different colleges entered the final round of the quiz, where they participated in pairs. Paper presentation included topics such as PLC and SCADA application in the automation industry. The five-round technical quiz involved questions from across engineering disciplines. Team 1, comprising Mr. Brijesh Gupta C R, of B M S College of Engineering, Bangalore and Mr. Viraj Putambekar, VIT, Vellore, won this event.

 

Roborash, a robotics competition, saw several teams build robots designed negotiate an obstacle course by detecting them on the go.

 

A cultural program was performed by the participants of iACT 2017 and Manipal’s student community - in an evening celebrating MIT’s cultural heritage and diversity.

 

The valedictory function saw Mr. Venkatesh Sarvasiddhi give a talk on Imagine Cup - a Microsoft initiative aimed at tapping engineering talent from colleges across India. Mr. Omkar Dateshwar, Vice President of ISA Manipal, concluded the function by proposing the vote of thanks - assuring Mr. Sarvasiddhi of healthy participation from Manipal for Microsoft’s Imagine Cup.
