School of Management, Manipal Academy of Higher Education Celebrated its 15th Annual Day on 13th November 2015

Dr. Raveendranath Nayak, Director, School of Management Manipal Academy of Higher Education, unveiled the annual report, reflecting the achievements of the institute in learning, teaching, research and engagement in the preceding academic year. He also shared his vision of scaling new heights in the coming years and ultimately placing SOM among the Top -10 B-Schools in the country.

K. Annamalai IPS, Superintendent of Police, Udupi District was the chief guest of the function. As the 2010 IIM Lucknow graduate, K. Annamalai IPS was in a perfect vantage point to guide SOM’s MBA students on how to excel in career and life. Stressing the need for ethical conduct for organizations, he said, “Firms that are managed with honesty, integrity and ethics will survive and progress forever.” Advising the students to follow ethical principles in career and life, he reminisced, “Honest earnings provide us happiness and satisfaction; Ill-gotten money reduces one’s self-esteem--the person is even unable to stand in front of his/her children.” Highlighting the importance of life-long learning he said, “Learning must not stop when you graduate; Today everyone must gain knowledge and skills all along their career.”

He asked the students not to be afraid of taking risks in their careers: “Take risk in life to pursue challenges you’re passionate about; you can start an enterprises instead of joining the corporate world or work for a few years in a NGO. Whether you succeed or not in it, the change within you after you’ve taken the risk makes it worthwhile.” Giving the example of bungee jumping, he said, “Before taking the jump, you’re apprehensive and anxious, but after the jump, you can feel the sheer joy of accomplishing it and you feel you shouldn’t have feared. This is what life must be-taking a calculated and positive risk and enjoying the different experience.”

Dr. Narayan Sabhahit, Registrar Manipal Academy of Higher Education asked the students and faculty members to focus on how knowledge can be applied to solve societal problems. Further he said, “International collaborations, and student and faculty exchanges with overseas universities must be pursued to enhance the quality of education”.

Professor Dr. KVM Varambally, an erudite educator, management scholar and the former Director of SOM, was felicitated for his yeoman services to the institution.

This was followed by a beautiful cultural extravaganza by the students of SOM. ‘Flittermaus’ rock band from Bangalore led by Mr. Tyron, an alumnus of SOM enthralled the crowd with their electrifying music.
