International Conference on Financial Inclusion at Manipal Institute of Management

The Centre for Advanced Research in Financial Inclusion, Manipal Institute of Management, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal has organized an international conference on “Fostering Economic Transformation through Inclusive Business: Innovate and Inspire” at Sir M V Hall, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal on 22nd and 23rd February 2019 at Sir M V Hall, MIT. The conference focused on the following themes: i) business case for innovation, developing inclusive digital business models, and disruptive technologies that support inclusive growth and financial inclusion, ii) key success factors and challenges in implementing inclusive business projects, and iii) inclusive business approaches for the reduction of extreme poverty, financial exclusion and marginality.
The event was graced by Mr. Sunish Jauhari, Director, South Asia Operations, Ashoka and was presided by Dr. Narayana Sabhahit, Registrar, MAHE. The inaugural address was delivered by Dr. Savitha Shelley, the convener of the conference, welcomed the gathering and also gave a brief introduction about the conference. Mr. Sunish Jauhari, the chief guest, highlighted two essential requisites to be a successful social business entrepreneur – ideology of Interdependence and empathy. He addressed the challenges of affordable housing and social business model in general. Dr. Narayana Sabhahit corroborated the need for inclusive growth in Indian context through innovative businesses and narrated the origin of Syndicate Bank as an innovative model. He ignited young minds by narrating few instances on innovative and sustainable public – private partnership models. The function was witnessed by researches and delegates from various global universities, students and faculty of Manipal Institute of Management. Dr. Ranjith VK proposed vote of thanks. Prof. Chetana Maddodi compered the programme.
The panel discussion on “Fostering Economic Transformation through Inclusive Business Models: Issues and Challenges” was held after the inauguration and the panelists were Mr. Sunish Jauhari and Dr. Sudip Ghosh, Professor in Finance, Pennsylvania University, USA. Over 70 academicians and researchers from all over India and abroad participated in the conference and presented their research findings during the technical sessions. Six best papers were awarded to the researchers who presented novel ideas in parallel technical sessions. This conference has provided platform to debate, exchange knowledge and develop partnership that shall provide contemporary solutions to inclusive business models that accelerate inclusive growth.
