The 10th International Conference on Clinical Pharmacy (CPCON 2025) organized by the Centre for Pharmaceutical Care in association with the Department of Pharmacy Practice, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MCOPS), themed "Transforming Pharmacy Practice for Value-Based-Care Models," was held on January 10 & 11, 2025, at Dr. TMA Pai Halls, KMC, Manipal. This global event brought together professionals and researchers to discuss advancements in pharmacy practice, focusing on patient-centered and value-based care.
The conference commenced with an inaugural ceremony by the chief guest Dr. Sharath Kumar Rao K, Pro-Vice Chancellor-Health Sciences, MAHE, Manipal. The first scientific session, "Research in Patient Care Models," featured thought-provoking presentations. Frank May, FISPE, Australia, explored the evolution and prospects of clinical pharmacy in India. Dr. Simon Bell, Professor and Director, Centre for Medicine Use and Safety, Monash University, Australia, discussed new directions in aged care pharmacies in Australia. Dr. Steven Chen, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, University of Southern California, USA, highlighted strategies for improving population health through value-based clinical pharmacy services. Later, participants engaged in poster and oral presentations across student and professional categories, showcasing innovative research. A key highlight was an interactive session with industry experts, which fostered networking and knowledge exchange. In the afternoon, the second scientific session addressed "Patient Safety in Value-Based Care." Renowned speakers, including Dr. V. Kalaiselvan, Senior Principal Scientific Officer, Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India; Dr. Ronald Castelino, Associate Professor, University of Sydney, NSW, Australia and Mr. Anand Kunchanur, Senior Manager Pharmacovigilance/Affiliate Safety Representative, AbbVie, India discussed medical device safety assessments, patient safety in kidney disease, and industry perspectives on safety methodologies, respectively. The session underscored the significance of collaborative efforts in advancing patient safety standards. The day concluded with a panel discussion on the Indo-Australia collaborative model in clinical pharmacy and therapeutics, involving eminent experts from both countries.
The second day began with research presentations, offering further opportunities to explore innovative ideas. The third scientific session focused on competency standards for pharmacists in patient care. John Jackson, President, FIP Western Pacific Pharmaceutical Forum, Australia, Monash University, Australia, presented strategies for establishing value-based care. Dr. Jenni Ilomaki, Associate Professor, Centre for Medicine Use and Safety, Monash University, Australia, and Dr. Sherif Eltonsy, Assistant Professor, College of Pharmacy, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, Canada, shared insights on leveraging real-world data for medication safety and the implications of medication use during pregnancy. The CPCON Young Research Forum emphasized skill-building in scientific writing, with expert-led discussions on advancing research communication. In addition to Industrial experts such as Dr. Sam Mathew and Dr. Subeesh K Viswam, Dr. Naveen Salins, Associate Dean, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal and Dr. M.K Unnikrishnan, Professor, Amrita School of Pharmacy, Kochi, were the panelists of the forum. The fourth scientific session explored innovations in patient care models. Notable presentations included Suresh Shanmugham's (Head, Department of Pharmacy Practice, School of Pharmacy, International Medical University, Malaysia) exploration of curriculum adaptations for value-based care and Munawar Peringadi's (Business Analyst, BlueBriX Health, India) discussion on integrating behavioral science and technology in transforming care. Other resource persons were Dr. Johnson George, Monash University, and Sohil Ahmed Khan, Griffith University, Australia. The conference concluded with closing remarks, distribution of awards and certificates, and a vote of thanks. CPCON 2025 successfully fostered collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and innovation in clinical pharmacy, paving the way for advancements in value-based care practices.
The program also involved two parallel themes in the pre-conference workshops on “Writing Successful Publications: Practical Insights” and “Health Data Analytics using ‘R’ programming” on 9th January 2025. The program involved 184 scientific presentations in different categories by students and staff. 474 registered delegates from 49 pharmacy colleges pan India participated in the conference. Dr. Rajesh V, Associate Professor, Dept. of Pharmacy Practice, was the organizing secretary, and Dr. Surulivel Rajan, Professor & Head, Dept. of Pharmacy Practice, was the convenor of the conference.
