On September 21, 2024, 27 students, guided by Dr. Prasanna Kumar, Department of Pharmacy Practice, CDC & NSS Teacher Coordinator, MCOPS, participated in the "Swachhata Hi Seva 24" beach cleaning activity at Asare Beach, Kemmannu. The activity began with a briefing from a local panchayat officer, emphasizing the importance of environmental preservation and the need for community service. Students were organized into teams and equipped with cleaning tools to collect waste along the beach. The group successfully collected and segregated 17 bags of plastic and glass waste, ensuring proper disposal in collaboration with local authorities.
The initiative made a significant contribution to cleaning Asare Beach while promoting environmental awareness among participants. The students expressed a sense of accomplishment and pride in their contribution to protecting the coastal environment. This event also fostered a deeper understanding of the importance of community-driven efforts in combating pollution.
The beach cleaning activity was a successful and impactful event, demonstrating the power of collective action in addressing environmental challenges. It reinforced the values of responsibility, teamwork, and community service among the student volunteers. The CDC and NSS Committees of MCOPS are committed to continuing such activities to foster a sustainable future and promote environmental stewardship. The team expressed gratitude to the MCOPS and MAHE administration, Dr Uday Shetty- Udupi municipal commissioner and Kemmannu Gram Panchayat officials, and all participating students for their dedication and support in making this event a success.
