For the first time this year, MCOPS has conducted a program called "MCOPS Parents Connect" to bridge the gap between teachers and parents. Dr. Geetha Maiya, Director of Student Affairs at MAHE, Manipal, was the Chief Guest of the event. A guest talk was delivered by Dr. P. V. Bhandary, Director and Consultant Psychiatrist at Dr. A. V. Baliga Group of Institutions, Udupi.

The program began on MS Teams with a welcome address by Dr. Srinivas Mutalik, Principal of MCOPS. The Principal welcomed the Chief Guest and the resource person with a bouquet and extended a warm welcome to faculty members and parents. In his address, Dr. Mutalik emphasized the need for collective and collaborative efforts to provide a tailored and effective education, supporting both the academic and personal growth of students. This initiative aims to strengthen the invaluable connection between educators and parents, fostering a sense of security and stability in students. He commended Dr. Jayesh Mudgal, Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and coordinator of student affairs, for making this event a reality.

Following a brief introduction, Chief Guest Dr. Geetha Maiya delivered a keynote address to the online audience. She highlighted the importance of such programs for the success and well-being of students. Dr. Maiya underscored the crucial role of parents and teachers in nurturing and building a bright future for students, advocating for their holistic development through tailored and efficient education. She encouraged parents to engage with their children, address their challenges, celebrate their successes, and work towards shared goals for the best possible education. This program, she stated, paves the way for a bright future for students.

Next was the eagerly awaited guest talk by Dr. P. V. Bhandary, a renowned expert in his field. His enlightening talk, titled “Nurturing Minds: Parent-Teacher Synergy for Student Well-being,” discussed various pressures and problems faced by students, such as the pressure to perform, conform, and reform. Dr. Bhandary critically examined adolescent behavior and, with relevant examples, offered approaches for parents and teachers to address these challenges. He presented the 4A’s approach as a solution and discussed the benefits of co-curricular activities and college-initiated programs. He also acknowledged the efforts of student counselors and the student support center at MAHE, urging parents to encourage their children to utilize these facilities. Dr. Bhandary emphasized that the MARENA sports facility at MAHE is a key preventive measure for psychological issues. He reiterated the importance of such programs for improved academic performance, enhanced well-being, and a smooth transition into professional life.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session where parents' queries were addressed. Dr. Bhandary was felicitated by the Principal of MCOPS, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Krishnamurthy Bhat, Vice-Principal of MCOPS.
