Dr Amit Patel, Adjunct Faculty, delivers a lecture on US healthcare system
Students and alumni of Department of Pharmacy Management and ISPOR Manipal Student Chapter organized an interactive lecture with Dr Amit Patel, Partner, MME LLP, US and Adjunct Faculty, Dept of Pharmacy Management on July 22, 2021 between 5.30 to 7.00 pm IST via MST.
Dr Patel gave an overview of the US healthcare market, the payer perspective and role of third party payers, the pricing and access to pharmaceuticals highlighting the role of government and private payers, insurance companies, payment mechanisms for prescription medications and how Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) plays an important role in the access to healthcare. Dr Patel also explained about the tiered pricing system and co-pay mechanisms as well as out of pocket expenditure in accessing pharmaceutical products in the US market.
In a session that lasted for about 1.5 hours, Dr Patel lucidly and succinctly gave an overview of US healthcare system. He also addressed the questions and queries from the participants during the session. About 55 participants were present for the guest lecture.
