The 57th Awards and Annual day of MCOPS was special this year. MAHE leadership lauded the principal, Dr C Mallikarjuna Rao and his team for accomplishing the targets of 2020 in 2019 itself, after he presented the annual report. Later, students received a thought-provoking message from the chief guest, Dr Thimmapa Hegde, an eminent neurosurgeon based in Bengaluru on four theories of living which were Life, Live, Learn and Legacy. Dr Hegde opined -“Live life in the present moment. Learn from the lessons that life teaches you. Leave behind a legacy which may prove fruitful for the coming generations.”
MCOPS has a tradition of awarding students who score distinction in subjects. Dr. Jagadish P.C, Associate Professor, announced the names of the recipients. PharmD, BPharm, and MPharm students received their academic excellence awards from Dr. Mallikarjuna Rao and Vice Principal, Dr. Sreenivasa Reddy. Ms Nisha performed the welcome dance. The invocation song was rendered by Ms Rupa and Ms. Meghashree.
Dr. Devendra Arora (Senior Lecturer, Academic staff, School of Pharmacy & Pharmacology, Griffith University) received the distinguished alumnus award. He was felicitated by Pro- chancellor, Dr H S Ballal, Vice- Chancellor, Dr H Vinod Bhat, Pro-VC, Dr PLNG Rao, Registrar, Dr Narayana Sabhahit and Dr N Udupa, Director- Research.
Ms Jessica Fernandes, [MPharm Pharmaceutics] received the prestigious Dr TMA Pai gold medal for outstanding research from Dr Thimappa Hegde.
Dr Anoop Kishore, Associate Professor of Pharmacology, Ms. Ramya Ravi, Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance and Mr. Venkatesh Kamath, Assistant Professor–Senior scale of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology bagged the ‘Good Teacher Awards’.
Dr Srinivas Mutalik, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmaceutics received ‘Teacher of the year’ award. Supporting staff Mr. Divakar Shettigar, Senior Laboratory Technician, Department of Pharmaceutics and Mr Nagesh Nayak, General Duty Worker, MCOPS office, received ‘Good supporting staff’ awards from Dr Narayan Sabhahit, Registrar, MAHE, Manipal.
Dr Mallikarjuna gave a panoramic view of the Annual Report of MCOPS, Manipal for the year 2019. In his report, he gave a brief introduction to the history of MCOPS and current excellence of college in education and research. MCOPS annual report was released at the hands of Dr H Vinod Bhat along with the dignitaries on dais. In his speech, Dr Bhat admired the achievement of MCOPS in science and education. He assured of an advance research facility which would cater to the needs of PhD programme at MCOPS. Undoubtedly, MCOPS would be in the top 100 of QS ranking with this stellar performance, said Dr Bhat.
The chief guest was introduced by Dr. Swapnil J Dengle, Assistant Professor (Senior Scale).
Masters of Ceremony were Ms. Ramya Ravi and Ms. Athira R Nair, Assistant Professors, Department of Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance, MCOPS. Dr Sreenivasa Reddy proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Vasantharaju, Associate Professor (Senior Scale) announced the set of awards for academic excellence of B.Pharm, M,Pharm & PharmD and awardees received the certificate and Memento from Dr. PLNG Rao and Dr. Narayan Sabhahit.
Awardees received certificate of appreciation from Dr. N. Udupa (Director Research – Health Sciences), Dr PLNG Rao and Dr. Raviraja N S (Director, Innovation & Business Development, Stempeutics).
As curtains came down on the formal program, the student council took charge for the conduct of cultural event performed by students of MCOPS. MCOPS congratulates the recipients of prestigious endowment awards, Travel grant awards, PRAISE Awards and I2C Awards.
