Report on Community Outreach Activity at Athrady Village, Udupi

On the occasion of World Pharmacists' Day 2022, Pharmacy Literacy Club (PLC), Centre for Public Health Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MCOPS), Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, India organized a community outreach activity at Ambedkar Sabha Bhavana, Athrady Village, Udupi on 25th September 2022 forenoon. More than 25 villagers participated in health education by PLC volunteers. Dr. Manu Sudhi and Dr. Sachin V from the Department of Emergency Medicine, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal explained the first aid measures for snake bites, pesticide poisoning, epilepsy, stroke, etc. PLC student volunteers provided awareness on the benefits of refraining from alcohol and tobacco use, with skits and fun play, and distributed patient information leaflets among the community. The community program was a great success as all the villagers were actively involved. One of the villagers said, “I feel that such programs should be conducted on a regular basis and I am happy to attend”. Dr. Sonal Sekhar M, Co-ordinator of Centre for Public Health Pharmacy, MCOPS coordinated the outreach program. The event was sponsored by Canara bank, Manipal, and MTTN was the media partner.
