Skill development seminar

Department of Pharmacology, MCOPS organized an informal interaction session with alumni, Mr. Prasanth Eapen on 17th September 2022. A total of 25 students including the M Pharm 1st and 2nd-years attended the event.
The seminar started with a brief introduction about Mr. Prasanth Eapen given by Dr. Sree Lalitha. Mr. Prasanth completed his Masters in Pharmacology from Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MCOPS), MAHE, Manipal. He is currently working as an Associate Scientist at Biocon BMS research center (BBRC), Bengaluru, Karnataka. Mr. Prasanth briefed the attendees about his current line of work as a Pharmacokinetics expert. He talked about the challenges in securing a job and the importance of soft skills, solid resume, basic data analytical skills (MS Excel) in this respect. He highlighted the significance of ethics, scientific attitude, punctuality, communication skills, effective thinking, knowledge about the basics, and confidence in a professional environment. He related each and every point with an example from his life, thus making it easier for the students to understand and relate to. The session stimulated questions and thoughts in the students which opened into discussions that led to good learning.
Some of the take-home messages from his session were regarding self-confidence and how it helps to build a strong image. Honesty is a virtue that helps build one's work ethic. Scientific curiosity is a quality that should be nurtured in every individual to be able to make quantifiable contributions. The points stated were very simple but were eye-opening in terms of understanding what all qualities are required to excel in a job.
The session ended with a vote of thanks from Dr. Sree Lalitha and a small token of appreciation from Dr. Nandakumar, Head of the Department, MCOPS.
