Report on World Cancer Day Programme 2020
The Department of Community Health Nursing and students of IV year BSc Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), MAHE, Manipal conducted WORLD CANCER DAY PROGRAMME on 5/2/2020 at Primary Health Centre, Hirebettu, Udupi district. Dr. Narasimha Nayak, Medical Officer, PHC Hirebettu was the chief guest for the occasion. Dr. Malathi G Nayak, Associate Professor, Dept. of Community Health Nursing presided over the function. The objectives of the program were to create awareness among ASHA workers regarding cancer and the role of ASHA workers in cancer prevention.
Student representative Ms. Kavya welcomed the gathering. Dr. Malathi G Nayak spoke regarding the theme of World Cancer Day “I am and I will”. The students performed a skit regarding the common risk factors and warning signs of cancer. Mr. Ranjith, a student representative delivered a session on common cancers in community and myths and taboos related to cancer. Dr Narasimha Nayak highlighted on the supportive schemes and services available for cancer patients and the role of ASHA workers in cancer prevention. Dr. Malathi G Nayak demonstrated techniques of breast self-examination and also addressed the doubts raised by the ASHA workers. The session was concluded by the open discussion facilitated by Ms. Kiran Mendonca, IV year BSc Nursing student. A total of 18 members participated in the program and they identified the program as effective and motivating.
