Health Awareness Program at Community
The first year MSc nursing students of Manipal College of Nursing, MU, Manipal conducted a nutrition and health awareness program on 12th September 2015 at Shanthinagar community, Udupi Taluk.
The first year MSc nursing students of Manipal College of Nursing, MU, Manipal conducted a nutrition and health awareness program on 12th September 2015 at Shanthinagar community, Udupi Taluk.
This was conducted based on the identified need of the area after having visited that area for one week as part of the clinical requirement for the subject Advanced Nursing Practice.
The main problem identified was poor environmental sanitation and nutritional problems among under-fives. Around 30 people attended and the programme which was started by invoking God’s blessings.
A role play was played by the MSc nursing students on the topic environmental sanitation. Adequate explanation was given and the doubts of thepeople were clarified with regard to the waste disposal.
The nutritional food preparation included Hyderabad mix and green gram mixture. It was prepared by the students. The nutritive value and the method of preparation were explained using charts. The food was served to the people who attended the programme. The programme ended by thanking all the in- habitants of Shanthinagar for their participation as well as cooperation.
