REPORT ON GUEST LECTURE

The Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) organized a guest lecture for third-semester BSc Nursing students on ‘How nurses can care and uphold core values’ on August 20, 2024, between 8.00 am and 9.00 am at Lecture Hall 2, third floor, Basic Sciences building MAHE, Manipal. Mr Gilbert Martis, RGN, Principal Trainer, CEO, & Director, Health Skills Training Academy, England, was the resource person for the session. In his deliberation, he mentioned that it is vital for nurses to keep personal problems separate from the clinical setting to maintain a clear focus on patient care, ensuring that personal stressors do not compromise their judgment or performance. He highlighted that maintaining proper energy levels and body posture is crucial for nurses, as it directly impacts their ability to provide safe and effective patient care. He also explained the importance of teamwork, fostering collaboration, the importance of human touch, good communication for the overall well-being of the patients. The session benefited 124 students in the third semester, MCON MAHE, Manipal. This session was centered on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3 & 4, i.e. Good health & wellbeing and Quality education, respectively. The event was organized and coordinated by Dr Shalini G Nayak, Assistant Professor, Medical Surgical Nursing, MCON, MAHE Manipal.
