REPORT OF UGC ACTIVITY – FIT INDIA PROGRAM

Based on the UGC directives, as part of Fit India program, the Sports Committee of Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), Manipal has organised a session for the 4th year BSc Nursing students of MCON on 5th November 2020 between 10:00 am & 11:00 am through Microsoft Teams online Platform.

A session on ‘Physical fitness: Importance & Factors affecting Physical Fitness’ was arranged and Dr. Deepak Ram Bairy, Deputy Director of Physical Education, KMC, MAHE, Manipal was the Resource Person for the same. Dr Melita Sheilini, Sports Advisor, MCON welcomed and introduced the speaker to the participants.

Dr Deepak, in his talk, emphasized on the importance of physical activity for the Physical, Mental, Emotional and Social wellbeing of an individual. Also, highlighted on the various factors affecting physical fitness such as hereditary, nutrition, environment, Training (facilities and methods), illness, self-motivation, emotional stability, lifestyle, and posture.

The session reminded the self-responsibility that each individual is having towards maintaining physical fitness. The students were motivated for regular involvement in the physical activities and it was reiterated that the only medicine for the physical fitness is the self-motivation to practice regular physical exercise, practicing balanced intake of diet and maintaining healthy sleep pattern. Overall, the session has thrown light on the significance of physical activities as the stress buster, confidence builder and as a means for averting health problems. Total of 94 students attended the session and it was concluded with the words of gratitude expressed by Dr.Melita.
