Visit of Adjunct faculty-MCON, Manipal

An adjunct faculty member of MCON Manipal, Ms. Sheeba Narikuzhy, Registered Psychotherapist, Hopeful Minds Psychotherapy, Ontario, Canada, visited MCON on the 19th of September 2024. During her visit, she shared her expertise with the undergraduate students and PhD scholars.

A session on “digital well-being’” was taken to the 1st semester BSc. Nursing students between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm. She has emphasized the positive draws of digital technology, screen time limits, and digital self-care tips. The “Emotional intelligence and self-awareness” session was delivered to PhD scholars at 2.30 pm. She emphasized the difference between emotions and feelings, the importance of introspecting oneself using Johari’s window, and the importance of EQ over IQ. A session on “building resilience in clinical practice” was conducted for the students of the 5th semester BSc. Nursing. She highlighted the nurse burnout among mental health nurses and the importance of managing stress. She further discussed various ways of balancing life and building resilience among nurses. These sessions helped in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of Quality Education (SDG 4), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). The visit was coordinated by the Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing.
