MSON ANNUAL SPORTS MEET 2024 - 25

Manipal School of Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal, conducted an annual sports meet on 20 December 2024 at MIT ground. Prof. Varadesh Hiregange, Professor and HOD, Dept. of GCPAS, MAHE, Manipal, was the chief guest of the program. Dr. Judith A Noronha, Dean, MCON, MAHE, Manipal, graced the occasion.

The program commenced at 8.30 am with the March past by the students of MSON with the Band troop of TMA Pai EMHS School, Kunjibettu, followed by the introduction of the teams to the chief guest, by Ms. Shanti P, Assistant Director, Physical Education Department, KMC, MAHE, Manipal. Dr. Leena Sequeira, Principal, MSON, MCON, MAHE, Manipal, welcomed and introduced the chief guest. Prof. Varadesh Hiregange addressed the gathering and declared the sports meet 2024-25 open. He spoke about the advantages of sports activities and said that rather than using the term sportsman we can use the word ''sportsmanship''. He said there are no sports losers, as everyone benefits from the activities. Prof. Varadesh concluded his speech by mentioning the care and compassion of nurses and congratulating everyone. The event progressed with a torch ceremony by students. The solemn oath for the event was taken by Mr. Hilton Lawrence Noronha, sports secretary, 3rd-year Diploma student, MSON. Finally, the program ended with the chief guest's felicitation of the band set students and their teacher. Appreciation awards were given to the students who won the competition at the university level. Mrs. Saraswathi Hebbar, lecturer, MSON, MAHE, Manipal, delivered the vote of thanks. Ms. Sania Dsa and Ms. Tenzin Lhadon were the master of ceremonies for the program.

Running events comprised 100m, 200m, 400m, and 4x100m relay. The jump events included the long jump and high jump. The throwing events were discus, shot-put, and javelin throw were conducted. In addition, a few events were held for the faculty. The position holders were felicitated at the victory stand by different dignitaries.

The valedictory ceremony began at 4.15 pm. Dr. Binil V, Additional Professor & Head, Department of Psychiatric Nursing, was the chief guest. Mrs. Soumya Alex, Asst. Lecturer, MSON welcomed the gathering. Dr. Binil V addressed the students and congratulated them. Mr. Unnath A Amin won an individual championship for the year in the men's category from the third year and in the women's category Ms. Manya from the first year. Mr. Unnath A Amin won the Best Outgoing Men trophy, and Ms. Shreya D won the Best Outgoing Women for the year 24-25. The program ended with a vote of thanks by Mr. Hilton Lawrence Noronha. Ms. Annette, Second Year Diploma student, was the master of ceremony for the valedictory program. The event contributed to Sustainable Development Goal 3- "Good Health and Wellbeing".
