Nutrition Programme Report

The students of fourth year BSc Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal conducted a Nutrition Program on 29/09/2018 in Malpe area under the guidance and supervision of Mrs.Regeena Mathew, Lecturer, Department of Community Health Nursing, MCON.

The objectives of the nutritional project were to identify the nutritional deficiencies, plan an appropriate menu and to create awareness on nutritional deficiency in Malpe area. Initially, nutritional assessment was conducted for family members of 18 houses. The nutritional assessment report revealed that there is sufficient intake of carbohydrate, protien and low intake of calcium in their diet. A menu was planned to meet the nutritional requirements of people based on normal RDA value. The menu consisted of rice, curd curry, fish palya (fish with coconut and shallots) and banana milk shake which are rich in calcium.

Students were actively involved in preparing food by adopting the principles of cooking. After the food preparation students performed role play focusing on the importance of calcium rich diet and explained regarding modified menu plan its nutritive value and method of preparation. Following the presentation the prepared food was served to the 12 participants from different families of Malpe area. Family members were pleased and appreciated the work of students and also expressed that the programme was informative.
