Report of Breastfeeding awareness program

Rotary Club Udupi Royal, Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Scheme, BC Trust, Brahmavar Thaluk, Department of Women and Child development, Udupi, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal Jointly conducted an awareness program on importance of breast feeding at Government Higher Primary School Uppoor Jhathabettu on 25th August, 2019.

The programme began with an invocation followed by welcome speech by Mrs, Savithri, Secretary, Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Scheme and address by Mr. Yashavanth BK, President, Rotary Club Udupi Royal, Mr. Yogeesh Acharya, President, BC trust Brahmavar Taluk emphasized that the natural feeds to be encouraged; the new-borns should not be deprived of breastmilk and in this regard, an awareness for the mothers on importance of breast feeding is very much essential to promote adequate growth, development and to prevent mortality among children.

Mrs. Manjula, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal explained about the physiology of milk secretion, importance and benefits of early initiation and exclusive breastfeeding, techniques, position, problems associated with the breastfeeding and tips to overcome those problems.
Mrs.Susheela, Joint Secretary, Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Scheme, gave vote of thanks. Mr. Balakrishna Maddodi, Professor, MIT, MAHE, Mr. Rathnakar, Founder President of Rotary Club Udupi Royal, Mr. Manjunath, Councillor, Eshwar Nagar, Manipal, Muncipality, Udupi were present during the program. A total of 50 mothers benefitted out of this programme.

Rotary Club Udupi Royal, Nisarga Friends Manchi, Indrali along with Department of Women and Child development, Udupi, Department of District Police, Primary Health Centre, Manipal, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal conducted an awareness program on importance of breastfeeding, Nutritious diet and abuse among women at Ambedkar Bhavana, Manchi, Kumeri on 1st September, 2019.
The programme began with a welcome speech by Mr. Ashok Naik, Councellor, Munchi Kumeri ward, Muncipality, Udupi. Mr. Yashavanth BK, President, Rotary Club Udupi Royal, briefed on the importance of the programme. Mrs. Nethra, Head Constable, Manipal Police Station explained on various forms of abuse experienced by women, reasons for that, how to handle and overcome these issues. She has also mentioned that there are female officers available to attend and respond to these issues to help the women in time. This service is available all 24 hours.

Mrs. Manjula, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal explained about the significance of breastfeeding to the new-born, mother, family and the society and the ways with which the mother can make sure that the child is getting adequate breast milk. She has also emphasized on dietary requirements of mothers during breastfeeding.
Ms. Manjavva, Junior Health Assistant, Primary Health Centre, Manipal explained about the importance of nutritious food for different age group.
The program came to an end with a vote of thanks by Mr. Manjunath, Councillor, Eshwar Nagar, Manipal, Muncipality, Udupi. The master of the ceremony was Mr. Rathnakar, the coordinator of the programme. The beneficiaries of the programme were the 35 community people comprised 30 females and 5 males.

Rotary Club Udupi Royal, Chaithanya Jnana Vikasa Trust, Manipal along with the Department of Women and Child development, Udupi, Department of District Police, Primary Health Centre, Manipal, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal conducted an awareness program on importance of breastfeeding, Nutritious diet and Violence and abuse among women at Government Higher Primary School, Manchi Kodi, on 8th September, 2019.
The programme began with a welcome speech by Mr. Rathnakar, Coordinator of the program followed by inauguration of the program and address by Mr. Ashok Naik, Councellor, Munchi Kumeri ward, Municipality, Udupi.
.Mrs. Manjula, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal explained on various aspects of breastfeeding such as physiology of milk secretion, importance and benefits of early initiation and exclusive breastfeeding, techniques, position, problems associated with the breastfeeding and the tips for the management of those problems.
