World Health Day 2015

The department of Community Health Nursing Department of Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal, and department of food safety and standard act, in collaboration with District Health & Family Welfare Udupi district, Government of Karnataka, have observed the World Health Day 2015, by organising the following activities;

On 20/03/2015, School awareness programme was organised on food safety at Sri Vishnumurthy high school, Kodibettu. On this occasion, Mr. Uppu Praveen, 2nd yr MSc nursing student, Manipal college of Nursing, Manipal, spoke on food safety for school children, and 2nd year PB. BSc nursing students of MCON Manipal performed a skit. With the cooperation of Food safety and standard act department, Udupi district, Government of Karnataka, Further the department of FSSA Udupi district and the department of Community health nursing have organised street play on ‘How safe is your food? From farm to plate, make food safe’ at various places like Kundapura 25/3/2015, Karkala 26/3/2015 and in Udupi 27/3/2015, the event was organised by Mr. Venkatesh, Designated officer FSSA Udupi district and Mrs. Malathi G Nayak, Assistant Professor, MCON Manipal and Dr. Shashidhara YN, Associate Professor and HOD, Department of Community Health Nursing, MCON Manipal.  

On 4.04.2015, poster competition was held for Manipal Academy of Higher Education faculty and students. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Sunil. C. Mundkur, Additional Professor of Department of Paediatrics, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal and coordinated by Mrs. Manjula, Assistant Professor, MCON Manipal, 21 posters were exhibited in the poster competition.  

On the same day seminar was organized on the theme at conference hall Sri Saibaba cancer and research centre, Kasturba hospital between 2.30 and 4.30pm. The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. Prasanna Kumar, Project Director, District Urban Development, Udupi District. In his address he stressed the importance of maintaining standards for food safety and quality food and prevention of food adulteration. Dr. Surendra Chimbalkar, Incharge DHO & Leprosy officer, Udupi District also joined hands to light the lamp and gave a talk on food safety versus mortality and morbidity in community. Dr. Judith Angelita Noronha, Associate Dean, Manipal College of Nursing Manipal, highlighted the importance of food safety and role of health professionals in imparting information to the general public.  

After the inaugural function a seminar was conducted. Dr. Rohini, District Surveillance Officer, Udupi District, spoke on food safety act. Mr. Arup Kumar Dhar, Assistant Professor – Sr. Scale, Food and Beverage Management, WGSHA Manipal, addressed the gathering on Food Hygiene & Preservation and Mr. Lingaraju AR, Assistant Professor, Manipal College of Nursing Manipal, shared his views on Food Borne Diseases at its prevention. Dr. Shashidhara YN, welcomed the guests and vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Anusuya, Assistant Professor, Manipal College of Nursing Manipal. Mrs. Reshma, Lecturer, Manipal College of Nursing Manipal, compered the programme.
