BEACH CLEANING DRIVE - 2022

As part of the "Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar/Clean Coast Safe Sea” program, launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, the Health and Social Welfare Committee of Student Nurses’ Association, Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, organized a beach cleaning drive at Malpe beach on 16th September 2022 from 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm.

Thirty four students from various batches of undergraduate nursing programs and two faculty from the college participated in the cleaning drive. Around 30 bags of waste, mainly single-use plastics and rubbers were collected from the seashore of Malpe beach. The collected waste was disposed of appropriately.

It was a wholesome experience to make a move for the betterment of society and it gave a feeling of fulfillment to take a step in eradicating the mistakes of mankind and saving nature from huger disasters.

Ms.Anusha Varughese, the chairperson, and Ms.Nivya Binoy, the Secretary of the Health and Social Welfare Committee, Student Nurses’ Association, coordinated the program under the guidance of Dr.Melita Sheilini, Assistant Professor - Selection Grade and faculty advisor, and Mrs.Savitha Prabhu, Assistant Professor-senior scale faculty co-advisor.

Beach cleaning drive was also conducted, as suggested by the University Grants Commission, as part of the celebration of Swachhata Pakhwada and Awareness among the public on curbing the use of Single-Use-Plastic (SUP) and discouraging the use of plastic. People at the beach side were made to understand the motive of this programme with the help of posters prepared in English as well as Kannada.
