Breast Cancer Awareness Programme

Globally, breast cancer awareness month remains despite the seemingly endless Coronavirus crisis. To create awareness among women, as part of Bharath ka Amruth Mahotsav activity, the Health Education Committee of the Student Nurses Association (SNA) - 2021 of Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal, organized an awareness program on Breast cancer between 10.30 am to 12 noon on 9th October 2021 for the mothers and family members of antenatal and postnatal clients admitted in Women and Child health block of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal. The sessions were delivered by Health education committee representatives, Ms Levia Marina Lobo, Ms Shetty Swathi, Ms Nikshitha, Ms Jhanavi Crystal and Ms Aleena Jossy through discussion and demonstration. They said about the meaning, causes, signs and symptoms of breast cancer, steps of breast self-examination, myths and facts, and prevention and management. Students also emphasized on early detection by self-breast examination and regular screening and stressed about lifestyle modification to prevent breast cancer and promote optimum health. This program was coordinated by health education committee chairperson Ms Levia Marina Lobo, IV year BSc Nursing and Shetty Swathy, II year PBBSC Nursing, guided and supported by advisor Dr Yashoda Sathish, and co-advisor, Ms Prathibha Kamath, Assistant Professors, MCON, MAHE Manipal. All the sessions were informative. A total number of 20 participants benefitted from the program and it was well appreciated by them.
