School Health Programme

The Department of Community Health Nursing & students of Final Year B.Sc Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal, organized the “School health programme at GPU College, Bramhavara, on 11th November 2024 in collaboration with Department of Public Health Dentistry, MCODS and Department of Optometry, MCHP, Manipal. The program commenced with registration, followed by Dental and Eye screening of school children and referral to KH Hospital, Manipal, was done to the students who were found to have related problems. There were a total of 170 school children screened, among them 80 students were referred for their dental health problems and 16 were referred with eye health problems.
Thereafter, the final year BSc Nursing students also gave a health talk to the school children and parents. Ms Deepthi, a Final Year BSc Nursing student, welcomed the gathering. Dr Dhruv Ananth, Intern, MCODS gave a speech on dental hygiene and highlighted the importance of it. The final year B.Sc Nursing students deliberated the session on “Good lifestyle habits lead to sound mind” by using different AV aids such as charts, videos, and role play and enlightened the young minds on balanced diet, exercise, healthy habits, personal hygiene and highlighted the importance of having healthy habits for good mental health. School children actively participated in the question and answer session and the prizes for the winners were distributed. There were a total of 176 participants who attended the program which included 170 school children, two school teachers, and four parents. The efforts of staff and students from MCON, MCODS, MAHE, Department of Optometry, MCHP in organizing this camp were appreciated by Ms Uma, Vice–Principal, GPU College, Brahmavara. This program is contributed to SDG3: Good health and wellbeing & SDG4: Quality Education.
The program was concluded by giving vote of thanks by Ms Suhani, Final Year B.Sc Nursing student and the programme was coordinated and guided by Dr. Jeyalakshmi K, Assistant professor – Senior scale, MCON, Manipal.
