World Tuberculosis Day- 2025

In order to meet Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG-3), Good Health and Well-being, the Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), MAHE, in collaboration with the Primary Health Center (PHC) Hirebettu, observed World Tuberculosis Day 2025 on March 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Hirebettu PHC.

The formal program was inaugurated by the Medical Officer, Dr. Narasimha Nayak, in the presence of Shri Hareesh Shetty, President of Hirebettu Panchayat; Shri Keshava Kotian, President of 80 Badagebettu Panchayat; Mr. Ismail, Panchayat Member; Mrs. Sumangala, PHC Staff Nurse, and Dr. Soumya Christabel, Assistant Professor (Senior Scale), Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal.

During the inaugural address, Dr. Narasimha Nayak emphasized the importance of TB prevention activities and highlighted new government initiatives to eradicate TB. Following his address, Shri Keshava Kotian congratulated Team MCON for taking the initiative to conduct an outreach program for community upliftment.

After the formal program, second-year MSc Nursing students specializing in Medical-Surgical Nursing conducted a health education awareness session through a mime performance. The mime portrayed key clinical manifestations of TB and preventive measures for its control.

Subsequently, an awareness session was delivered by Dr. Soumya Christabel on the theme Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, and Deliver. During her session, she emphasized various government initiatives aimed at eradicating TB, such as Nikshay Poshan Yojana, Nikshay Mitra (community support), and the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

A total of 45 ASHA workers, 20 Anganwadi children, their parents, and PHC staff benefitted from the program.

Mrs. Janet Alva, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal, served as the master of ceremonies. At the same time, Dr. Anil Raj, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal, coordinated the entire program.
