School Health Awareness Program by I PBBSc Nursing Students

An outreach programme, was organized by the First Year PBBSc Nursing students of Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal, under the guidance of Dr. Sangeetha Priyadarshini, Assistant Professor, Department of Child Health Nursing, MCON, Manipal, and Dr. Baby S Nayak, Professor & HOD, Department of Child Health Nursing, MCON, Manipal on 22nd September 2023, between 3:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M. The programme aimed to create awareness on "Accident prevention, Prevention of communicable disease. Importance of balanced diet and personal hygiene” for 50 students of classes IV and V of Academy School Manipal. The students were sensitized on the preparedness and management of handling various accidents they encounter in their daily activities and management of communicable diseases, mainly Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, and Dengue fever, importance of balanced diet and personal hygiene in the prevention of diseases. Good health is essential to sustainable development. This health awareness would support Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3), which is Good Health and Well-Being. Mrs. Laxmi, the Headteacher, welcomed the students. Mr. Abhishek Kumar, a first year PBBSc Nursing student of MCON, gave an overview of the programme. The program was conducted with a discussion, skit, and dance, incorporating a demonstration of the handwashing technique as a measure for better understanding of the students. The program concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Ronak Kamat, a first-year PBBSc Nursing student of MCON. Feedback was obtained from the participants. The faculty and the students of the school appreciated the programme and expressed that it was useful for them and was well organized.
