Role Play on Food Safety

As a part of Information Communication and Educational activity of District urban development Cell Udupi District, Government of Karnataka, have requested the Manipal College of Nursing Manipal to organize role play at Karkala, Udupi and DC office, Manipal.

Interestingly, this year World Health Day theme: “How safe is your food? From farm to plate make food safe”. Hence the Department of Community health Nursing Manipal College of Nursing have agreed to perform role play based on this year’s World Health day theme to create awareness among the general public regarding food safety. The faculty of department of Community Health Nursing, II year PBBSc nursing students and the department of food safety and standard act Udupi district organised the role play on 31th March 2015 at Rajatadri (DC Office, Manipal) from 12. 45 to 1.10 pm, 26th March 2015 at Karkala (near bus stand) from 6 to 6.45pm and 27th March 2015 at Udupi (near service bus stand) from 6 to 6.45pm

In the role play, it was communicated to the street venders on how food is contaminated, adulterated from farm to plate and its effects on health. The street play concluded with interactions (scripted) with the participants on various queries of general public, which was addressed by Dr. Shashidhara YN, HOD department of Community Health Nursing and Mrs Malathi G Nayak, Assistant professor. Mr. Ventakesh, District food safety officer and Mrs. Geetha, Project Coordinator, District Urban Development Cell also participated in the program.
