Awareness program on enhancing values and respect among young generation and Cybercrime

As part of the student nurses’ association’s activities an awareness session was organized for all students of Manipal College of Nursing on 28th October 2015 at the Dr. TMA Pai Hall, Manipal Academy of Higher Education.

Dr. PV Bhandary, Medical Director, Dr A. V. Baliga Memorial Hospital Udupi, Navajeevana Counseling Centre Udupi was the speaker for the session on “enhancing values and respect among young generation”. He spoke to the students about the age related rebelliousness, peer pressure and importance of adherence to rules and regulations laid down by the institution.  

Dr. Bhandary greatly emphasized that love, respect, loyalty and honesty are the professional values every nurse should imbibe. “Always place patients first, be willing to help and be competent” was the message he gave to all students. He concluded by reminding students of the three values of Florence Nightingale; patience, compassion and dedication also that only by the practice of these values can nursing care be best given.

With the new generation becoming more tech savvy, the second session on cybercrime was the need of the hour. Mr. Annamalai IPS, Superintendent of Police Udupi enthralled the young audience by his talk on cybercrime. Mr. Annamalai spoke about crimes affecting the individual, those affecting the community and finally those affecting the country as a whole. He explained in simple terms the concepts of hacking, phishing and how future wars would be cyber wars. Mr. Annamalai stressed on the importance of use of helmets and public’s contribution for self-safety by following rules laid down by the government.
