Report on Guest Lecture 'Translating Thesis to Publication” for PhD Scholars

The PhD Vertical of Pillar II: Exemplary Research and Innovation, Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal organized the guest lecture on 'Translating Thesis to Publication” on 7 January 2025, between 11 am and 12.00 pm for the PhD Scholars. Dr. Abraham Samuel Babu, Associate Professor, Department of Physiotherapy, Manipal College of Health Professions, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal, India deliberated the session. Dr Babu highlighted the various ways of translating the thesis into high-impact academic publications. He emphasized considering the readership and indexing of the journal, choosing the right journal, and its impact, while selecting the journal for writing the academic publication. He also highlighted the different article categories, including original articles, systematic and narrative reviews, and brief reports/research letters, which can be considered while publishing the research based on the research need, publishing trend, and strengths and weaknesses of the study. The session also gave insight into the different dissemination strategies, the importance of presenting the research at conferences for better networking, and opportunities for collaboration. He also emphasized that PhD scholars have a clear time plan and strategy from the inception of the study for disseminating their research through conferences and publications, and to stay committed to the plan throughout the research process.

A total of 65 PhD scholars attended the guest lecture. This session has contributed towards achieving SDG -4 Quality education. The overall program was convened by Dr. Binu Margaret, Assistant Professor – Selection Grade, and Dr. Baby S Nayak, HOD, Department of Child Health Nursing and PhD Coordinator and Chairperson of PhD Vertical, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal.
