Panel discussion
After the inaugural function panel discussion on the theme-Nurses: A voice to lead, Achieving the sustainable development goals was conducted. Dr. Baby S Nayak ,Professor , Department of Child Health Nursing was the moderator and the eminent panel members were Mr. Prabhath Kalkura, Project Manager, Diabetic Foot Care, School of Allied health sciences, Mrs. Eva Chris, Director, Tech2 and Alumnus of Manipal College of Nursing, Mrs. Sushmita Karkada, Mrs. Melita Sheilini, and Mrs. Jeyalakshmi K, Assistant Professors, MCON Manipal.
The panel discussion was focused on 17 SDGs and 169 targets that will stimulate action in the important areas: poverty, hunger, health, education, gender equality, water, energy, economic growth, industry and innovation, reducing inequalities, cities, consumption and production, climate action, ecosystems, peace and justice. This comprehensive agenda recognizes that it is no longer sufficient just to focus on economic growth, but on fairer and more equal societies, and a safer and more prosperous planet. Nurses have a key role to play in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly Goal 3 related to Health and Well-Being. Given nursing’s involvement with people in all sectors of care and throughout the lifespan, nurses have a particularly important role to play in supporting public engagement in achieving the people-centeredness of health systems and programmes.
