World AIDS Day 2022 - Report

On the occasion of World AIDS Day, the Department of Fundamentals of Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing Manipal, along with First Semester BSc nursing students conducted a role pay and awareness session to high school students about HIV Aids at TA Pai English Medium High School, Kunjibettu, Udupi at 12 noon on December 1, 2022. During the session, Dr. Sulochana, Associate Professor, Department of Fundamentals of Nursing explained about HIV, AIDS, its significance and stressed the importance of equalization. She also took a session on women's health for the female students and faculty of the school. A total of 90 boys, 41 girls, and nine faculty were part of this program

Awareness session about HIV Aids for first Semester BSc Nursing students on the theme ‘Putting Ourselves to the Test: Achieving Equity to End HIV’ on December 1, 2022, at 3 pm was delivered by Dr. Melita Sheilini, Assistant Professor, Selection grade from Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing MCON, Manipal.

Dr. Melita Sheilini briefed about the importance of observing World AIDS Day every year. She explained worldwide statistics of HIV/AIDS, the mode of transmission, treatment, and availability of medical facilities to people living with HIV/AIDS. She also discussed in detail nursing issues in caring for patients with HIV/AIDS and the approach to nursing care of patients living with HIV.

She shared her clinical experience and how to maintain confidentiality to lead a healthy life for people living with HIV in society. A total of 138 first-semester BSc nursing students participated in this session.
