Report of Children’s Day Programme – 02nd & 13th November, 2018

Children's Day is celebrated each year on November 14 in India as a tribute to the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

The faculty, third year BSc Nursing and first year PBBSc Nursing students of department of Child Health Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing Manipal organized children’s day programme on November 02nd and 13th, 2018 at Academy School Manipal and Asha Nilaya, a home for the mentally challenged children, Udupi respectively.

The students of third year BSc Nursing organized various games for the children from class 1 to 5 such as running race, book balance race, balloon bursting and bomb in the city. The formal program started with invocation and welcome address.

The students of MCON performed dance and action song involving the students of Academy school. As part of awareness program, health teaching on immunization and personal hygiene was delivered using the charts and demonstration of hygienic technique.

The prizes for the winners in games were distributed. Mrs. Laxmi, the head teacher of the school addressed the gathering and appreciated the program. The program came to an end with the distribution of sweets to the school children and teachers. There were 75 children, 3 teachers, 31 third year BSc Nursing students and two faculty members of the department. All the children actively participated in the games and enjoyed the event. Ms. Reshal, III year BSc student compered the program.

At Asha Nilaya, Udupi

Twelve students of first year PBBSc Nursing organized various games for the children of Asha Nilaya such as running race, bomb in the city and passing the ball. Around 60 mentally challenged children actively participated in all the games.

Mrs. Jaya Vijaya, the head teacher of the school addressed the students and expressed her gratitude for spending time and celebrating children’s day with the special children. Sweets were distributed to the children and teachers. Mr. Sumanth, student of I year PBBSc nursing compered the program.
The entire programme was coordinated by Mrs. Sangeetha Priyadarshini and Mrs. Sheela Shetty, Assistant Professors, department of Child Health Nursing, MCON, Manipal.
