World Tuberculosis Day observed

The Department of Community Health Nursing Manipal College of Nursing Manipal, MU and IV year BSc nursing students in coordination with Primary Health Centre, Herebettu and Vinayaka Yuvak Vrinda, Nagarabettu observed World Tuberculosis day on March 24, 2014 at Venkatesha Nilaya, Nagarabettu, Athrady.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr Vijayalaxmi, Medical officer Primary Health Centre, Herebettu, Mr Ananda Gowda, Senior Health Inspector, PHC, Herebettu, Mr Shashidhara Y N, HOD Community Health Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing Manipal and Mr Ramdas Nayak Correspondent, Vinayaka Yuvaka Vrinda, Herga.

Dr Vijayalaxmi in her address spoke on the importance of World TB Day, causes of TB, Management (DOTS) and prevention of TB.

Mr Ananda Gowda, spoke on local DOTS, multi-drug resistance TB, and its prevention. Mr Shashidhara YN sensitized the group saying that health is every individual’s responsibility and also highlighted the other programmes conducted by Manipal College of Nursing in a view to create awareness on the disease. Mr Ramdas Nayak expressed happiness in organizing and coordinating such awareness programmes.

A play was conducted on signs and symptoms, management and prevention of TB, by 4th year students with the help of audio visual aids highlighting the causes, symptoms, management and prevention. Mr Bhaskar U, member of Yuvaka Vrinda welcomed the gathering and Mrs Aruna S, Junior Female Health Worker proposed vote of thanks.
