GUEST LECTURE ON STANDARDS AND PROTOCOLS IN THE HOSPITAL

The Department of Community Health Nursing and CNE committee of Manipal College of Nursing Manipal together organized a Guest lecture on Standards and Protocols in the hospital on 23rd January 2016 between 10.30 am to 12.30 pm at Manipal College of Nursing Manipal.

The speaker for the session was Dr Elissa Ladd, Associate Professor, MGH Institute of Health Professions, Boston.
Dr Elissa Ladd explained the importance of following the standards and protocols and focused more on Joint Commission International guidelines which includes international Patient Safety Standard guidelines. She has demonstrated this with lots of examples and videos on: Identify patients correctly, improve effective communication, improve the safety of high alert medications, ensure correct site, correct procedure, and correct patient surgery, and reduce the risk of health care associated infection and reduction of patient harm resulting from falls. 

Dr Ladd also conducted the group activity and asked them to present the challenges and suggestions to implement the standards. Around 120 participants attended the programme including the Assistant Nursing Superintendents, postgraduate students from School of Management and students of Manipal College of Nursing Manipal. The concluding remarks were given by Dr Judith Angelitta Noronha, Associate Dean, Manipal College of Nursing Manipal. She appreciated the efforts of the speaker, Dr. Elissa Ladd in giving a very fruitful lecture on the subject.
