World AIDS Day Observation
Every year, on December 1st, the world commemorates World AIDS Day. People worldwide unite to show support for people living with and affected by HIV and remember those who lost their lives to AIDS.
The Department of Fundamentals of Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal in collaboration with Manipal Centre for Infectious Diseases, PSPH, MAHE, Manipal observed World AIDS Day by organising various events. As part of World AIDS Day, E-poster and Video making competitions were conducted for students from different Units of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal. E-poster was on the theme: “Global Solidarity, Shared Responsibility” and the theme for Video-making was: “The Rights of Women & Girls.” A total of 18 E-posters and five Videos were received for evaluation.
Dr. Elsa Sanatombi Devi, Professor, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing took an awareness session on HIV/AIDS for first-year BSc Nursing students on December 1, 2020. She highlighted current statistics, meaning, stages of untreated HIV infection, transmission, and myths towards HIV transmission. She has also focused on other sexually transmitted diseases, diagnostic tests, management, and prevention of HIV infection.
