Summer School Program Report - Randomized Controlled Trials: Plan, Implement, Report

The Pillar II Exemplary Research & Innovation and Student Research Forum of Manipal College of Nursing, in collaboration with MAHE SRF & Directorate of Research, MAHE, Manipal, conducted the Summer School Program on the topic “Randomized Controlled Trials: Plan, Implement, Report” from July 22–24, 2024, at 2–4 pm. The sessions focused on attaining SDG 4: Quality Education.

Day 1 (22.07.2024): The resource person for the session was Dr. Sonia R. B. D’Souza, Professor & HOD, Department of Obstetrical and Gynecological Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal. Dr. Sonia explained the principles, types, characteristics, and elements of RCTs.

Day 2 (23.07.2024): The resource person for the session was Mr. Anil Raj, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal. Mr. Anil elaborated on the randomization process (sequence generation and allocation), blinding, and drawbacks of RCTs.

Day 3 (24.07.2024): The resource person for the session was Dr. Shalini Ganesh Nayak, Assistant Professor - Senior Scale, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal. Dr. Shalini explained reporting guidelines/CONSORT, and the appraisal of RCT. She explained each component of the CONSORT checklist for reporting RCT.

The sessions were very inspiring and informative and were well-appreciated by the participants. A total of 14 participants, including postgraduate students and PhD Scholars from in and around MAHE, attended the session.
