World Health Day 2018

Theme: “Universal Health Coverage: Everyone; Everywhere”.

As a part of World Health Day 2018, the Department of Community Health Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal along with 4th year BSc Nursing students had organized following activities:
Awareness programme on accessibility of health care for self-help group/ASHA/ Anganwadi workers:
Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal, organized an awareness program on World Health Day Theme: ‘Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere’ to Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and self-help group at PHC, Hirebettu as part of World Health Day 2018 on March 26, 2018. The program started with welcome speech by Mrs. Manjula, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Community health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal which was followed by an oath taking for the election by the participants of the program led by Dr. Subramanya Rao, Medical Officer, PHC, Hirebettu. He addressed the audience on WHO Day 2018 theme, Universal Health Coverage, health services and schemes of the government how to overcome the barriers for utilization. 

Mrs. Pramila Shettigar, President, Athrady-Hirebettu Panchayat explained on various services provided by the panchayat to the community and procedure for accessing the services. Mrs. Bharathi, Anganwadi teacher focussed on the ICDS and various services, schemes for the under-fives, adolescents, pregnant and lactating mothers. Also explained how to improve the access and utilization. Mrs. Sumangala, Junior Female Health worker emphasized on the roles and responsibilities of health worker to the public and enhancing the utilization of services by creating an awareness. A total of 40 members including Anganwadi teachers, ASHA workers and self-help group members participated in the program.

Debate competition
The debate competition on the theme of “Access to health: Is it a challenge in India?” was held on 3rd April 2018 from 4.00 to 5.00 pm in the 2nd floor classroom, Manipal College of Nursing, (MCON). There were four teams of B.Sc (N) and P.B.B.Sc (N) students debated on the theme and discussed the strength of health care delivery system and various challenges in utilizing the health care services in India. Total of 35 participants attended the programme. The event was moderated by Mrs.Melenie and judged by Dr.Sushmitha Karkada and Mr.Anil Raj, faculty of MCON. Mr. Tom S Puthenpurackal and Mr. Raghavendra Nayak bagged first prize and second prize was bagged by Ms. Sarah D’ Souza & Ms. Sapna Dipali Singh.

Poster Competition
Poster competition was organized for the faculty and students of Manipal University on 6th April 2018, based on the World Health Day theme. Total of 21 posters were presented by the participants from various institutes of MAHE. Two eminent judges Dr Vanitha, DOTS Officer, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal and Dr Shashi J Soans, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, KMC Manipal, evaluated the posters. Ms.Steffy and Ms. Tenzin Dolma, fourth year BSc nursing, MCON bagged the first prize, Ms. Saira Elis Thomas, Second year BSc Nursing secured second prize and Ms. Aishwarya Boby & Ms. Chachu Alexander won the third prize.

District Level World Health Day Celebration
The formal programme at District level World Health Day was organized on April 7, 2018 at Pragathi Soudha Ambalpadi Bypass, Udupi in collaboration with District Health & Family Welfare Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development and Training Centre. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Shivananda Kapasi, CEO, Udupi District. In his inaugural address he emphasized about the theme of the day and the various aspects of health.
Dr Rohini, DHO Udupi, welcomed the gathering and delivered the introductory speech focusing on newer schemes currently existing in Udupi District. Mr. Madhusudhana Nayak, District Surgeon, Udupi, Mr. Ashok, Principal, Praghati Soudha, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development and Training Centre, Ambalpadi Bypass, Udupi were present. Mr. Ashok spoke on the importance of nutritional diet in maintaining optimal health and wellbeing.
The prizes were distributed to the winners of debate and poster competition. The prize list read by Dr. Malathi G Nayak, Assistant Professor, Community Health Nursing Department, MCON.

Mrs Malathi Dinesh, Programme Coordinator focused on sampoorna suraksha yojana to the gathering and highlighted the benefits of Vajpayee scheme by the beneficiaries.
Mr.Shivananda also introduced about the upcoming election and VVPAT system followed by oath taking for the audience. Total of 150 participants attended the program. The programme came to an end with vote of thanks by Dr. Shashidhar Y N, HOD, Department of Community Health Nursing, MCON Manipal.
The entire programme was recorded and broadcasted in Community Radio Station FM 90.4 on April 9, 2018 at 5pm.

The overall programme was coordinated by Dr. Malathi G Nayak, Assistant Professor, MCON Manipal and Ms. Vijaya Bai, District Health Education Officer, DHO Office Udupi.
