Developmental Supportive Care is an approach that focuses on minimizing noxious stimuli while individualizing infant care and stimulation based on observable physiologic responses and behavioral cues. The objectives of the workshop was to understand the concepts of DSC, appreciate the activities of DSC & preterm behaviours.
The workshop was formally inaugurated by Dr Leslie E Lewis, Professor & Unit head of Neonatology, KMC, Manipal who emphasized the importance of DSC in Neonatal Care. The overview of the workshop was given by Dr Mamatha Shivananda Pai, Professor & Head, department of Child Health Nursing, MCON, Manipal.
The sessions covered in the workshop were: An overview of DSC by Dr Leslie E Lewis, a session on understanding of pre-term behaviour was delivered by Mrs Binu Margaret E, Assistant Professor, Department of Child Health Nursing, MCON, Manipal. Importance of early intervention & follow up care was dealt by Dr. Bhamini K Rao, Professor, Dept. of Physiotherapy, SOAHS Manipal.
Dr. Baby S Nayak briefed about Family centred Care and a session on Developmental Supportive care activities was taken by Mrs Yashoda Sathish, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Child Health Nursing, MCON Manipal.
The one day workshop was credited with 8 KNC credit hours. Mrs. Gracy Menezes, Principal of Wenlock School of Nursing was appointed as the observer by KNC.
A total of 46 participants including the staff nurses, faculty and students from Manipal, Udupi, Mangalore and Davanagere attended the workshop. The program was concluded by distribution of certificates to the participants by Dr Anice George, Dean, MCON Manipal. During the feedback, the participants expressed that the workshop very much useful and well organized. The Programme was coordinated by Mrs Yashoda Sathish and Mrs Sheela Shetty, Assistant Professors, Dept. of Child health Nursing, MCON, Manipal under the guidance of Dr. Mamatha S Pai, Professor & Head of the department.
