School Health Awareness Program

The department of Community Health Nursing along with 2nd year MSc Nursing student, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal conducted a school health awareness program on “Growth & Development in school-age children and healthy lifestyle “at Govt. lower and higher primary school Athrady on 02.03.2023 between 11.00 to 12.30 pm for the students of classes 1 to 7. The students and teachers were sensitized on the importance of personal hygiene, a balanced diet for school-age children, growth and development, and early pubertal changes and care which are essential aspects of SDG goal 3 good health and wellbeing.
Mrs. Saraswathy, Headmistress of Athrady School, welcomed the students and faculty coordinator and gave an overview of the program.
Dr. Ansuya, Assistant Professor, MCON discussed that personal hygiene to be maintained by the children and the consequences of unhygienic practices on health and study. She also enlightened young minds on balanced diets and highlighted the importance of consuming healthy diets, for the students of classes 6th & 7th, explaining the growth and development and changes that could happen physically and physiologically for both boys and girls. Also spoke on early pubertal changes and preparedness for menarche and care for the same. Dr. Ansuya also addressed the queries and clarified the doubts of students and school teachers.
The program was concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Shyamchand Pan, a 2nd MSc Nursing student. Around 70 students including faculty members participated in the program. The faculty members and the students appreciated the program, expressed that it was useful for them, and was well organized.
