NUTRITIONAL PROGRAM REPORT

The students of 4th year BSc Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal, conducted a Nutrition Education program on 8/12/18 at Nergi area, Malpe under the supervision of Mrs. Regeena Mathew, Dept. of Community Health Nursing, MCON.

The objective of nutritional education project was to identify the nutritional deficiency, planning the appropriate menu and to create an awareness on prevention of nutritional deficiency among the community of Malpe. Nutritional assessment and physical examination were conducted for the family members of 17 houses. The report revealed that there is an inadequate intake of calcium and iron in their diet. A menu was planned to meet the nutritional requirement of the people based on the RDA values. The menu consisted of Elanchi and Chikoo milkshake which is rich in iron and calcium.

The food was prepared by adopting all the principles of cooking. Students performed a role play on problems of iron and calcium deficiencies, which created an interest among the audience. The importance of iron, calcium and the dietary requirement were explained to the group by the students. The modified menu was explained with the nutritive value of each item and recipes. A total of 20 people from different families participated in the programme. The prepared food was served to the participants. Family members were pleased and appreciated the effort of students and also expressed the programme was informative.
