Guest Lecture Series - 14/2023

The Department of Fundamentals of Nursing conducted effective alumni engagement, guest lecture series 14/2023 at 2.30 PM on August 28, 2023, for First-Semester BSc nursing students. Ms. Roseminu Varghese, Lecturer in the School of Health and Social Care at Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) UK, and alumnus of MCON from the MSc nursing batch 2013- 2015 deliberated a session on “Vitals of Simulation in Clinical Nursing” through the MS Teams platform.
The session was to familiarize the students with the importance of simulation training and its effectiveness in learning before patient care is delivered directly. She explained what simulation is, the types, the vitals of simulation in clinical nursing, which improves clinical knowledge and performance, and the assessment of student performance. She explained the difference in the assessment systems followed and its requirements in fulfilling the standard criteria for qualification. She also said that simulation enhances their self-confidence, self-esteem, knowledge, decision-making skills, ethical values, and skills assessment. She emphasized that the skills we learn in the nursing foundation skill lab are the cornerstone for the future skills to be implemented in the nursing career.
She mainly enlightened the students about objective structured clinical learning based on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). She focused on fulfilling NMC criteria for clearing OSCE to work in the UK. A total of 111 female and 19 male nursing students have attended this session. This guest lecture contributed to SDG 4, quality education.
