Workshop on Bayley Scale of Infant and Toddler Development – III Edition

One day workshop on Bayley Scale of Infant and Toddler Development – III Edition was organized on 30th March 2017 by Manipal College of Nursing Manipal, in association with Pearson India Education Services, Bangalore.

Bayley Scale is a cross-cultural standardized scale to assess the developmental functioning of infants and young children between one month and 42 months of age and it is widely used as a tool in research as well as in clinical settings. During the introductory session Dr Anice George, Dean MCON Manipal stressed the importance of nurses training on Bayley scale for early identification of children with developmental delay.

The resource person of the workshop was Dr. Ravi Shankar Swamy, MBBS, MRCPCH, MD (Research), FRCPCH, Consultant Neonatal Medicine, Manipal Hospital Bengaluru. A total of 14 participants from the field of Nursing, Pediatric Medicine, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Clinical Psychology attended the workshop.  

Objectives were set by the participants before the session started and all activities of the workshop was directed towards meeting participant’s learning objectives. The participants were trained on administration, scoring and interpretation of Bayley Scale of Infant and Toddler Development.  

The live demonstration of developmental assessment on 1 year old infant and 2 years old toddler was the highlight of the workshop that provided participants with hands on learning experience on how to administer the scale and score the infant and toddler’s cognition, language and motor development. In the afternoon session Bayley screening test was demonstrated on a toddler.  

The workshop ended successfully with positive feedback from the participants. Participants expressed that their objectives were met and they look forward to applying the acquired skill in the field of research, clinical set up and community. The workshop was coordinated by Dr Baby S Nayak, Professor MCON Manipal, Mrs. Binu Margaret Assistant Professor, Selection grade, Ms. Tenzin Phagdol and Mrs. Joselin Arvind, project staff under DBT project of Manipal College of Nursing Manipal.
