Geriatric Palliative Care workshop at Manipal

Gerontological Nursing Association of India, End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) and Hospice & Palliative Care Association India Jointly organized hands-on training workshop for nurses at Manipal to empower nursing professionals with the skills, knowledge and attitude required to provide compassionate and holistic care for the elderly population with objective to enhance understanding the geriatric palliative care principes, develop skills in managing complex health needs and promote interprofessional collaboration for quality end-of-life care. Prof Hanife MacGamwell, Honorary Head & Instructor ELNEC USA & India, Mrs Sangeetha Murugan, Karunashraya & ELNEC Instructor, President Indian Hospice & Palliative care India and Dr Mamta Parihar, associate professor of Dr S.N Medical College Jodhpur who is an ELNEC instructor is taking the participants through an engaging learning forum at Manipal. This baby step is going to take us through better days. Dr Judith A Noronha, Professor & Dean MCON and Prof Hanife MacGamwell inaugurated the program with a message “Compassion in Action”. The president of GNAI Dr Elsa Sanatombi Devi primed about the Gerontological association and its viability for expertise and she expressed “Loving care transforms dying into a natural journey” Empathy matters. Dr Anil Raj Secretary GNAI was instrumental in making this workshop a success, driving meaningful learning. The GNAI made a roadmap for the yearlong activities to touch every nurse globally and make our elderly patient feel loved with culturally sensitive care. The workshop was aimed at enhancing the quality of life for older adults and strive to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3, 4, and 10—ensuring health, promoting quality education, and reducing inequalities.
